Success Stories

The Cabbage Patch Settlement House

For many low-income families, reliable transportation is a constant challenge. In Louisville, having a dependable car is often essential to securing and maintaining higher-paying employment. Julia was participating in The Cabbage Patch Settlement’s Family Partners Program and was struggling to keep her aging vehicle running. The car was at the end of its life, and she feared she would lose her job if it broke down again.

Over several months, she carefully saved the financial support she received through the program and was ultimately able to use it as a down payment on a reliable used car. Having dependable transportation ensured she could get to and from work each day, and it also allowed her to bring her children more regularly to The Cabbage Patch’s Recreation and Education programs. The increased stability and income also played a critical role when Julia made the difficult decision to leave an unhealthy relationship.

Family Promise of West Michigan

The monthly grants provided by Family Partners have provided meaningful support to Whitney, a single mom, as she works toward long-term stability and self-sufficiency. While pursuing her Social Work degree, Whitney has used a portion of the funds to help cover school-related expenses, reducing financial stress and allowing her to stay focused on her education.

Whitney has also demonstrated strong financial responsibility by setting aside part of the money each month into a savings account. By investing in both her education and her financial future, Whitney is taking important steps toward her career goals and building lasting stability for herself and her family.

Orphan Care Alliance

Kelsey is a single mom with three children. Orphan Care Alliance stepped in to work with the family and help prevent the children from being placed into foster care. Kelsey works hard, holding down two jobs to support her family, but has found it difficult to get ahead.

The grant from Family Partners has helped her pay for groceries and utilities as she has been working to get out of debt. A local church sh is attending helped purchase an alternator when her car broke down, but Kelsey demonstrated her resourcefulness by installing it herself. The stability of the monthly grants has provided essential support as she continues to get her finances on track.
